Our client is a 4th Generation family owned seafood and gourmet distributor founded in Ohio in the 40's. Today, they are a leading seafood distributor in the country servicing independents, clubs, hotels, casinos, taverns and retail markets in Ohio, Western Pennsylvania and Kentucky. They specialize in sourcing the best quality seafood that is sustainably wild caught and aquaculture species. About the Role

The HACCP, Food Safety and Quality Assurance Coordinator is responsible for being compliant with regulatory requirements and third party food safety and quality standards within the company.  This position will need to be process and solution driven and can follow multiple code guidelines to keep the company compliant for inspection and build on to the robust food safety requirements.  The safety records, foster a food safety culture amongst team members, conduct assessments and product recalls and maintain organized paperwork for the organization. This crucial position acts as the backbone of the food safety program and motivates the processing team to keep food safety and training in the forefront of the teams mind.

Essential Duties: 

  • Conduct and document daily food safety and sanitation evaluations and inspections.
  • Perform a thorough daily review and verification of production and monitoring records completed by the team.  Ensure all required records are completed and/or submitted, verified, and maintained.
  • Communicate with team members if daily food safety and sanitation tasks are not being met in a timely fashion.
  • Conduct routine assessments: GMP Assessment, Sanitation Assessment, Equipment & Facility Assessment, Glass & Brittle Plastic Inspection, Quality Assurance Monitoring, Equipment Calibration, Ozone Water Assessment, Quarterly Ice Room Sanitation Assessment
  • Maintain organized and current files of fresh seafood vendors.  Files includes supplier certifications, licenses,   Supplier outreach includes creating document requests, verifying documentation and determining  if supplier is compliant with company and standards.  Generate quarterly Approved Supplier List
  • Review Food Safety, HACCP, and Supplier Programs against local, state, federal, and third party code to ensure that the organization is in good standing. 
  • Maintain Employee Food Safety Training Program
  • Document corrective actions and root cause analysis for any findings that potentially can be out of code or cause EFC products to be unsafe or of poor quality.
  • Review customer complaints, perform investigations, and document process.
  • Meet with Phoodie Safe Consultant monthly
  • Document Food Safety program- “Good Catch”, “Above the Horizon”, and “Near Miss” recognition system for excelling employees, foreign object findings, and food safety excellence
  • Quarterly Food Safety and HACCP program review to third party audit and regulatory requirements.
  • Become a part of the recall and traceability team, conduct mock recalls and traceability tests
  • Local, State, Federal, and Third party standardization, awareness of code change and training staff to implement change
  • Oversee service providers and contracts for food safety related programs, including: pest control, chemical suppliers, and select equipment or facility maintenance programs.
  • Upload food safety documents for customer portals for compliance
  • Quality monitoring of products being received with the receiving and purchasing team daily
  • Point of Contact for State, Federal, and third party inspections
  • Support EFC processing team with questions and seek solutions with any issues that might arise throughout the day
  • Support EFC upper management with updates to the food safety program, weekly summary of findings and accomplished tasks
  • Create quarterly trend analysis of food safety programs and present findings, status, and organizational needs to EFC upper management.
  • Support EFC Processing team along with EFC Retail Market with standardization, documentation and training and hold staff to a high standard of food safety excellence through your work and dedication
  • Weekly Reporting to upper management team in Microsoft Teams software by end of business Friday

The Ideal Candidate

This role experience with 3+ years’ the food safety industry HACCP Certified (PCQI & ServSafe Certified additionally is preferred but not limited to)

Strong desire to standardize code and SOPs

Professional demeanor, in a professional office setting

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Strong analytical and problem solving skills

Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office required); spreadsheet applications using Excel

Ability to discuss corrective actions and past experiences

No Seafood allergies
