Job Description

We are looking to recruit for a Salmon Processing Plant in Whittier Alaska an individual to join the operational team. The Chief Engineer is responsible for maintaining company equipment and overseeing facility maintenance projects and upkeep to ensure the plant is operating at peak efficiency. Must have working knowledge of commercial ammonia refrigeration systems.

  • Main focus will be on the refrigeration systems during production, overseeing and maintaining the facility equipment, secondary/off-season as needed.
  • Maintain, monitor, and operate commercial ammonia refrigeration system, troubleshoot and resolve any issue in a safe and timely manner.
  • Oversee facility maintenance staff, prioritizing and assigning tasks, monitoring productivity, ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Lead maintenance crew in operating, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing equipment and machinery in multiple departments during production, in case of a crisis or emergency situation, and during off-season.
  • Responsible for planning, scheduling, and directing any repairs, modifications, or changes to equipment during production.
  • Monitoring facility areas for dangers and workplace hazards, participates in the development and implementation of safety standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in Senior Management Commitment, ensuring compliance with all Local, State and Federal laws and regulations.
  • Works closely with Facilities and Plant/Production Managers to maintain safe and efficient production speeds and processes.
  • Manages engineering and maintenance department heads and employees to facilitate efficient production processes and minimizes downtime.
  • Leads engineering and maintenance personnel in troubleshooting and repairing equipment and machinery in multiple departments during a crisis, emergency and/or downtime.
  • Leads engineering and maintenance personnel during day to day production processes while in production and during the off-season.
  • Coordinates the making of changes and modifications to facilities equipment either on the fly as needed, during production, or downtime.
  • Identifies dangers and helps accidents before they happen by explaining and enforcing company policy and general safety practices.
  • Coordinates and oversees all engineering and maintenance departments during production, including assigning personnel to areas and shifts and scheduling maintenance and repairs.

 

The Ideal Candidate

You will have an engineer degree and extensive experience in seafood industry in similar role.
